Atty. Assoc. Prof. A. Barış Özbilen, LLB, completed his undergraduate studies at Galatasaray University Faculty of Law. He earned his master’s degree from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University with a thesis titled 'La Responsabilité Médicale en Matière de Diagnostic Prénatal' ('Medical Liability in Prenatal Diagnosis') and received his doctorate in law from Galatasaray University. Özbilen began his academic career in 2004 as a research assistant at Istanbul Commerce University Faculty of Law, becoming an assistant professor in 2012. In 2016, he joined Bilkent University Faculty of Law, and in 2018, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Civil Law.

Özbilen has conducted in-depth research in areas such as property law, obligations law, family law, personal law, inheritance law, and health law, making significant contributions to the field of civil law through his books, articles, and presentations. Among his many national and international publications are his notable works, 'Form of Contracts and Invalidity Due to Non-Compliance with Formal Requirements' (2016) and 'Legal Transactions Concerning Human-Derived Biological Materials' (2011). Supported by the TÜBİTAK Scientist Support Scholarship, Dr. Özbilen carried out research at the Health Law Institute of the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland and conducted academic studies at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Law in Hamburg and the University of Bonn. He has presented papers in foreign languages at scientific conferences held in countries such as France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Belgium.   

Currently a faculty member at Bilkent University Faculty of Law, Özbilen has also held numerous administrative roles, including Vice Dean, member of the Faculty Board and Faculty Administrative Board, and member of the University Ethics Committee. Alongside his academic career, he has participated in various national and international projects, including studies on the harmonization of European Union legal practices. Additionally, he has played active roles in several social and scientific organizations, serving as a founding member of the Family Law Association, a member of the TÜSEB Science Commission, and a board member of the Ankara Education Association. While successfully balancing his academic and administrative responsibilities, Atty. Assoc. Prof. Özbilen continues to impart his extensive legal knowledge to new generations through undergraduate and graduate courses.
